Red tape regulator, DICT to lead gov’t digitization effort

THE Anti-Red Tape Authority (ARTA) is planning to sign a partnership with the Department of Information and Communications Technology (DICT) to digitize government transactions.

In a statement, the government’s bureaucracy regulator said it is due to sign a memorandum of agreement with the DICT in the first week of September. This agreement aims to formalize the coordination of the two agencies in improving government transactions through greater use of technology.

The Bureau of Internal Revenue (BIR) has launched a digital tax payments system allowing Filipinos to pay their taxes online using the electronic funds transfer service PESOnet, in line with the Duterte administration’s goal to cut red tape and improve the ease of doing business to better serve the public and attract more investors.

PEZA rejects renamed TRABAHO bill

The Philippine Economic Zone Authority (PEZA), the government agency that administers tax incentives for export-oriented enterprises, said the tax perks being proposed under House Bill (HB) 313 or the Corporate Income Tax and Incentive Rationalization Act (CITIRA) Bill, which replaced the controversial TRABAHO Bill, is ideal for domestic enterprises and not for export enterprises.
